The gaming laptops ROG Zephyrus G series have new compact sizes of 14- and 16-inch with upgraded AMD (Ryzen 8000) and Intel processors (Core Ultra). Here is a description of some of these companies’ equipment firsthand:
Of all the Asus CES 2024 reveals, the all-new ROG Zephyrus G14 and G16 models caught our eye with their new looks and components.
A few of these gaming beauties were taken for a spin before their official release, some of which are captured in the video above. A stylish cover and the upgrade to the AMD Ryzen 8000 and Intel Core Ultra series drive these laptops, along with Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 40 Series graphic cards. As stated earlier, there are even more inside and out; thus, let’s go through the details.

An All-New Look for a Portable Gaming Favorite
The ROG Zephyrus G line has been a success, especially the highly portable Asus ROG Zephyrus G14, which we have a quite positive review of here at GIS. The new looks of these latest tablets are quite classy, and, in fact, they are even thinner and lighter than the previous ones.
The aluminum chassis feels good in your hand, and the diagonal LED on the lid continues the matrix of LED dots we saw on these laptops before. You can control the LED lighting strip by organizing different colors and patterns.
Beginning with the G14 is only 0ALTH in thickness and is 3.3 pounds, a very portable size. That’s not a big difference in thinner and weight, but we should remember that Apple made it slightly thinner and lighter, which is remarkable considering how portable the device was.
As much as that, the laptop’s keycaps and the touchpad are bigger than before and suitable for typing and office work. I would want that extra space if I took this touchpad to a less formal workstation to play simpler games.
The G14 will come with the next generation of AMD processors, which were just introduced as part of the Ryzen 8000 series and will go up to the 8945HS. There won’t be any new Nvidia GPUs at CES this year; this is already the most advanced and powerful RTX 40 series of graphics cards.
For the G14, available GPUs are the RTX 4050 and RTX 4060, while the higher-end model will be the RTX 4070. Restricting this machine here instead of an RTX 4080 or RTX 4090 does make sense by size. The system can deliver up to 90-watt (W) TGP with a dynamic boost.
A liquid-metal thermal solution is used in a tri-fan format with three fans to keep this compact body cool.
First, the design and components are made to leave a great first impression, and so is the monitor. G14 will also incorporate the ROG Nebula Display, which supports up to 3K OLED panels with a 120 Hz refresh rate, and Nvidia G-Sync.
They have also amplified the audio, with six louder speakers and a larger woofer for the laptop. It uses a 180W power pin for charging instead of USB-C charging, but it has USB-C, a mini SD card slot, USB-A, and an HDMI port.
A Bigger Zephyrus G Experience, But Intel Inside
The G16’s main concepts are similar to those of the G15 but have definite differences. It features the new design, which is one inch and twenty-nine millimeters thinner and weighs about forty-eight point-five grams less than the previous model.
What you’re left with is the Nebula display. This is almost identical to the OLED panel X, except that Nebula maxes out at a 2. 5K panel and comes with a vapor chamber in the cooling system.
The latter most contrasts in components. This machine will use Intel’s Core Ultra “Meteor Lake” processors up to a maximum of Intel Core Ultra 9 185H. That’s somewhat of a surprise. But that’s okay, as you may have thought, for this kind of ultraportable—yes, it still could have waited for Intel’s recently released 14th Gen Raptor Lake Refresh processors.
However, since the Core Ultra line also goes up to a “9” tier and has its own high-performance segmentation in the form of the H series, it’s about time it got in on the gaming action. Intel’s Core Ultra has the plus of the integrated neural processing unit (NPU) for artificial intelligence chores, which are useful in various automatized tasks in this laptop.
The core G16 models, the RTX 4050, 4060, and 4070, will remain, in the same view of them as powerful but still portable performers. However, Asus pointed out that several more versions of the G16 will be available, including the RTX 4080s and RTX 4090s.
Each laptop allows you to select one area, an RGB or white-backlit keyboard, and a 1080p IR camera. Although both of these laptops will be out sometime in the first quarter of 2024, Asus has not provided any details on the price.
